VIDEO REFLECTIONS: Stereotypes
When it comes to stereotypes, there is a large variety of them. Either you talk about people from small regions or people from worldwide ones. My conclusion from the videos is that, on one hand, stereotypes are always bad because they do not represent the truth, so it does not matter if they are positive or negative, they are still stereotypes. On the other hand, the truth can be both positive and negative, but it remains a fact and not only in assumptions based on vague experiences, as stereotypes do. An example of it can be how foreigners relate Colombia to cocaine, thinking we produce it and/or consume it and how it has become our national brand. We colombians know it is not true. There is a huge amount of people who do not consume any drugs at all, different if compared to the small amount of people who actually consumes it. However, the fact is that despite our hard times fighting against drug cartels and narcotrafic, we are not that kind of people pictured by foreigners. Beyond the stereotype, though, there is the actual truth; colombians are actually very kind. Latin Americans, in general, are very kind too. We are very enthusiastic and willing to help others, at least, more than the rest of the world would.
