NEOLIBERALISM AND PUBLIC EDUCATION IN COLOMBIA

One of the main characteristics of Neoliberalism is that private administration is more efficient than public administration. As a consecuence,  as more institutions become private, they compete  to become more efficient and make more money. Therefore, education is not asked to emphasize critical thinking but subordination and systematic efficiency. 

Neoliberalism represents pretty much institutions´ need to be independent and more efficient to make money.  By getting their own resources, institutions would need to depend on external agents.

 In that way, it seems to be that much more and different initiatives can prosper and support themselves. However, because those institutions become private,  they are autonomous to decide how much to pay to their employers, and what are the requirements to be hired.

In that sense, Education becomes a mean for private purposes. As education search to respond to social needs, those social needs are Neoliberalist. Thus, public education does not need to prepare critical thinkers but the efficient employer. Therefore, People get prepared to do simple taks in the minor time possible.

So, education becomes in service of private Institutions, and it is not asked to prepare people to be free. Critical thinking is not needed anymore because Neoliberalism does not care about it.

All in all, Neoliberalism pushes public institutions to educate in the service of capitalism and forget about critical thinking and freedom.
